I help governments be less “Kodak” more “Instagram”

Like? Let’s talk

Hello, I’m Ibrahim!

Between Australia and Dubai, I peruse my passion for innovation and building governments for the digital age!.

My most recent activities during the past few months included establishing FlyLab – the drone for education startup which has reached the final stage of UAE Drone for Good Award 2016, designing and launching the Innovation Studio that uses a mashup of technological and non-technological tools to design and deliver public services, and designing and delivering first ever public “Open Data: Innovation in Smart Government” training program in Dubai.

In 2013, I co-founded Exantium, a Dubai-based government innovation consulting firm and the Dubai Node for The Open Data Institute in London.

I’m also a member of the UN e-Government Expert Group, our latest meeting took place in 2015 at the UN Headquarter in New York City where we reviewed emerging eGovernment issues and trends and discussed shaping UN eGovernment Survey 2016 which was published a couple of weeks ago.

Before starting advising governments independently, I was fortunate to work as a Strategy Advisor for the eGovernment program in Dubai and the federal eGovernment program of the UAE, where I led initiatives such as the first open government data portal in the country in 2011.

Through Exantium, my journey took me to work with some high profile public sector organizations in the GCC region including the eGovernment program in Saudi Arabia (Yesser), the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology in Qatar (ictQATAR) and the Information Technology Authority (ITA) in Oman.

And lately I’ve become a Registered Open Data Trainer from the ODI – the first in the Arab region.

I’ve also co-founded (01 Government) – the first and only Arabic portal dedicated to the technology of the government of the future.

My fields of interests include but are not limited to: open data & open government, smart cities, internet of things, social media and citizens’ participation and innovation in public sector.

You can check out my reflections and activity updates on my blog! And you can contact me to have a talk!

And here are some of the government agencies I’ve crossed path with:
